Easy decision. I like coffee but only have it on occasion. Last time you needed to <i>'spring into action'</i> or <i>'spring to someone's defense'</i>...explain. </p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: inherit;">On Monday I sprang into action. An older family member needed help filling out the gazillion papers sent from a new doctor. I started by helping over the phone then realized it would be easier to do in person. So my husband and I went to visit and I was able to help in person. Everyone was relieved when it was finished. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;">3. Tulips or daffodils? baby birds or baby bunnies? The cherry tree or the dogwood tree? Jelly beans or peeps? March madness or spring training? Peas or carrots? </p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: inherit;">Tulips. Baby birds and bunnies (I can't pick one). Cherry trees. Jelly Beans (Russell Stover are my favorite). Neither since I am not a big sports fan. Carrots but I like peas too. </span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpd55I4A1SEiyS4QRGrfLBvqDxRZR_tz2kggQspXG38i_h90gb4n27oXD17cTlz14A0afSf0f4F4KCTqOEWhWIz5fJjM1cbdPOwsLAEx14C41Nayy_CS5F-p7wqMBuOYHms5-44RICZ0-m/s1920/Tulips-Flower-17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1920" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpd55I4A1SEiyS4QRGrfLBvqDxRZR_tz2kggQspXG38i_h90gb4n27oXD17cTlz14A0afSf0f4F4KCTqOEWhWIz5fJjM1cbdPOwsLAEx14C41Nayy_CS5F-p7wqMBuOYHms5-44RICZ0-m/s320/Tulips-Flower-17.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcdhEhoOnPz4gyLPWOcZ1JbcuZywZxIErzkyxA0GVf2erTkE8_5jqsbUukkGRHcnYbkH8vTs_QDEPngMEtHOA2GKogoMWscwPZqqh4_XBkO3hR9ChUdAsnOB5_U24wHqW8X0kHta1_Yo7I/s268/0809_dt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="268" data-original-width="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcdhEhoOnPz4gyLPWOcZ1JbcuZywZxIErzkyxA0GVf2erTkE8_5jqsbUukkGRHcnYbkH8vTs_QDEPngMEtHOA2GKogoMWscwPZqqh4_XBkO3hR9ChUdAsnOB5_U24wHqW8X0kHta1_Yo7I/s0/0809_dt.jpg" /></a></div><p></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;">4. I read <a href="https://www.southernliving.com/souths-best/cities-on-the-rise" style="color: #6e698f; text-decoration-line: none;">an article here</a> on the South's best cities on the rise. They are-<i>Baton Rouge Louisiana, Fayetteville Arkansas, Greenville South Carolina, Huntsville Alabama, Lexington Kentucky, Norfolk Virginia, Tulsa Oklahoma, Waco Texas, Wilmington North Carolina, and Winston-Salem North Carolina. </i>Of the cities listed how many have you seen in person? Which one on the list would you most like to see? Have you spent much time in the southern states (USA)? Any spring road trips on your calendar? <br /></p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: inherit;">I have not been to any of those cities and do not have any plans for traveling anytime soon. I would most like to see Lexington, Kentucky. I have heard it is beautiful. I have made the drive along the Eastern coast to get to Florida so spent some time driving through Virginia, NC and SC. We have vacationed in VA and spend the night in both NC and SC. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;">5. Which do you enjoy more (or hate the least-ha!) yard work or house work? </p><p><span style="color: #3d85c6; font-family: inherit;">My backyard needs more than a sprucing up. It needs a big cleanup and better landscaping. I enjoy house work more. I do not like working in the yard or planting or gardening. Just not my thing. Is March coming in like a lion where you live? Aslan, Simba, Elsa, The Cowardly Lion...your favorite 'famous' lion? </p><p><span style="color: #274e13; font-family: inherit;">Yes it is! Yesterday it looked like a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky. But it was 30 degrees and felt like 16. I went to the beach to try to walk and enjoy the sunshine but was getting blown around. After a quick 17 minute walk I was ready to get back to the car. I don't have a favorite but will go with The Cowardly Lion. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">2. It is frustrating because I have fitness challenges going on there and can't see my progress. My device is still tracking though so that is good. I did 45 minutes on my Gazelle and am at 8,100 steps so far. My daily goal is 11,000 but I have been averaging over 14,000. My weight loss has slowed down but I am doing everything right. I am hoping it is because I increased my activity so much and soon the scale will start showing more progress. WW encourages us recognize our non-scale victories when we hit a plateau. I am trying. </span></p><p style="text-align: start;"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrCSY91lNucX6Eu33vTJj-2HmsaG1-Nd4KrLOzwcpoR0gK9Ht0VEhLTpnz5h2BtN7o_BJ-5S5rTJD1aUvcrB_-lqs9uvivhF-8XiTBSm8rk9WwIiJmJWeWzF3lzR8ZGEKwGOqVXDep1nTy/s135/15fd5232dee88bb66a2a11c1a44895de.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="84" data-original-width="135" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrCSY91lNucX6Eu33vTJj-2HmsaG1-Nd4KrLOzwcpoR0gK9Ht0VEhLTpnz5h2BtN7o_BJ-5S5rTJD1aUvcrB_-lqs9uvivhF-8XiTBSm8rk9WwIiJmJWeWzF3lzR8ZGEKwGOqVXDep1nTy/s0/15fd5232dee88bb66a2a11c1a44895de.png" /></a></div><br /><span style="color: #274e13; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span><p></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;"><br /></p></div><p><br /></p>Theresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09807434285554893291noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481064975235212785.post-46412666999737941402021-02-24T10:09:00.004-05:002021-02-24T10:09:33.628-05:00Wednesday's Clean Can Hodgepodge<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPycQuKiWG0NZGmPWHYGH5-xN_t9onTY3Bcebp61mYrSqhO7wn1txX8nVCkGoLwPotsDjrz7P8aqPidRoD8OZcOwx1FLLWeH6Tz6GYhLm7s0ZLjfCZIW42c1trdoGe6ihQBmX1XgSyPZG/s273/hodgepodge-button.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="250" data-original-width="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPycQuKiWG0NZGmPWHYGH5-xN_t9onTY3Bcebp61mYrSqhO7wn1txX8nVCkGoLwPotsDjrz7P8aqPidRoD8OZcOwx1FLLWeH6Tz6GYhLm7s0ZLjfCZIW42c1trdoGe6ihQBmX1XgSyPZG/s0/hodgepodge-button.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Visit <a href="http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com" target="_blank">Joyce</a> and join the fun!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p></p><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;">1. I don't remember ever having a spa day. Salons are open here. I have a friend who has a little salon in her home do my hair normally because I hate salons. Ever since I had vertigo it is quite uncomfortable for me to be around all the lights, mirrors and noise. Plus it is hard for me to put my head back to get it washed. I haven't had my hair cut in a year! I do my own coloring and have kept that up although I do admit to using root touch up more often and trying to stretch the time out between colorings. I do my own nails, usually just a neutral color on my fingers. I do not like the feeling of bare nails. I like them smooth and they seem to break less when they are polished. I am thinking about going to a fancy salon for a new haircut and style when I lose 50 lbs. as a reward and for a change. </span></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;"><br /></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;"> 5. This week's Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday which signals the beginning of Lent. Do you mark this season in some way? If so tell us more. Did you grow up 'celebrating' Lent? Is attending church part of your weekly routine? Are churches open for in-person worship where you live? </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: inherit; text-align: start;">No, I don't do anything special for Lent. I grew up celebrating Lent which meant getting ashes on Ash Wednesday and picking something to give up which would be hard to do, like chocolate or something. I no longer do that as I am no longer Catholic. Yes attending church is part of my weekly routine. Our church is open for in-person worship although there are certain restrictions in place. The service is also livestreamed for those who are not comfortable meeting in person yet. </span><span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: inherit; text-align: start;"> </span></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">2. When is the last time you sat beside a 'real' fire? Do you have a fireplace in your home? Wood or gas logs? February also happens to be National Cabbage Day. Who knew? Do you like cabbage? Is cabbage on your menu Wednesday? Of the following cabbage dishes which is your favorite-coleslaw (mayo or vinegar?), sauerkraut, cabbage rolls, cabbage soup, kielbasa and cabbage, grilled cabbage, bubble and squeak, kimchi, or haluski? </div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: inherit;">Cabbage is okay. It is rarely on my menu. Sometimes for St. Patrick's Day and once in a blue moon I will make coleslaw or sauerkraut. Coleslaw with mayo is my favorite. I like sauerkraut on hot dogs or with kielbasa. I haven't had any of these in a long time and probably won't anytime soon since I am watching what I eat. </span></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">5. My wallet was so heavy from all the coins in it but recently a girl at church was collecting spare change for a local crisis pregnancy center. I was happy to donate and I couldn't believe how light my wallet was after that. The last thing I purchased for $1.oo was a Valentine's Day card at Dollar Tree. Dollar Tree now has Hallmark and Dayspring cards! The last thing for $5.00 was this candle holder for Easter. It was on sale at Kohl's and I had an additional 30% off. It came to $5.03 plus tax. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqNmvrHyoYJaF2KEuiwid8DHBoziCRP6TwYpEtj6O2_Qs9fP92P4ARekmBdM3TczI8k69xCJmRe79CPV1VVcLhyphenhyphen7Ilfo57buZNnwwFSNoL3P6Fc8cdt6rGTQoP5M39Vx5p4GbIOOf0TERw/s96/4637849_ALT.webp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="96" data-original-width="96" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqNmvrHyoYJaF2KEuiwid8DHBoziCRP6TwYpEtj6O2_Qs9fP92P4ARekmBdM3TczI8k69xCJmRe79CPV1VVcLhyphenhyphen7Ilfo57buZNnwwFSNoL3P6Fc8cdt6rGTQoP5M39Vx5p4GbIOOf0TERw/s0/4637849_ALT.webp" /></a></div><br /><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">6. This is #221 to the best of my calculations. Thank you Joyce for all you do to keep the Hodgepodge going. I don't know how you come up with all these questions! </span></p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: inherit;">I feel like I do laundry and wash dishes 400 times a week. I have a dishwasher but there are still many things I wash by hand, like pots and pans, certain glasses and plastic containers. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;"></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;">2. I was also teaching second grade in a quaint village by the water and it was my dream job. It was an exciting time and I sure had a lot of energy. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;">3. Do you like cinnamon? What's something you make and enjoy that calls for cinnamon? Of the cinnamon 'foods' listed which is your favorite-red hot cinnamon candies, cinnamon toast, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon toast crunch cereal, apple cinnamon oatmeal, churros, an Indian curry?</p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: inherit;">Yes, I like cinnamon. I sometimes put cinnamon in my oatmeal (lately it has been pumpkin spice instead) and I make apple pie that calls for it. Cinnamon toast is my favorite, followed by cinnamon rolls which I rarely have. I usually have cinnamon toast with tea when my stomach is upset and I need to eat something. We may have cinnamon rolls for Christmas breakfast. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;">4. Does Christmas 2020 (or Hanukkah) look much like it has in years past, or is this year vastly different for you and your family? How so? How are you feeling about it all? </p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #cc0000; font-family: inherit;">This year is vastly different for us. It is the first year we will be staying home and not getting together with extended family. It was a hard decision but the fact that I may have been exposed to COVID made it easier. Not everyone agrees with me but I feel better erring on the side of caution. I am not debating the effectiveness of it but I do know that people are not made to live alone away from others. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">2. What one word from your own list of words describing this year sums up/best reflects <i>your</i> 2020? Tell us why. </p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: inherit;">Change. There have been many changes this year. Some good like my daughter graduating and starting college, and my son building his own comicbook series. Some not so good like not being able to attend church in person for months, not spending holidays with extended family, not being able to walk into a store without wearing a mask, etc. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">3. Do you like peppermint? Peppermint mocha, a candy cane, peppermint bark, peppermint tea, York Peppermint Pattie, peppermint ice cream...of the peppermint treats listed, which one is your favorite? Will you bake anything featuring peppermint this holiday season? </p><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: inherit;">Yes, I like peppermint. Yes to candy canes (if I can find any made in the USA), peppermint bark and peppermint ice cream. I usually only have peppermint tea if I am not feeling well as it is supposed to be good for stomach ailments and headaches. Mint chocolate chip ice cream is my favorite although I don't know if that is technically peppermint. My other favorite is peppermint bark and yes I will be making that this holiday season even though it doesn't require baking. </span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">4. Just your weekly mid-week reminder that it's fall y'all and it's my favorite. I love nearly all the flavors of fall but let's weigh in with an either or today...pumpkin or cranberry? hot apple cider or pumpkin spice latte? cinnamon or maple? apple or pear? ginger or sage? carrot or butternut squash? Yes you have to choose. What's a favorite dish made with one of the flavors listed here? </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000;">Fall is my favorite too! Joyce is making this question hard, I like most of these. Since I have to pick...pumpkin over cranberry but I love cranberry sauce. Pumpkin spice latte over hot apple cider but I wouldn't say no to a hot cider. Maple is one of my favorite flavors so I'd pick that over cinnamon but I use cinnamon pretty much all year long. Apple over pear. Ginger over sage. Carrot over butternut squash but I like both. I love pumpkin bread, apple pie and maple walnut balls which are a cookie that I make at Christmas time. </span></div><p></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px;"></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">2. Do you miss traveling? In this season of almost no travel do you think you've grown anxious or fearful about traveling again?<i> Or</i> has all this staying home not going anywhere made you restless to get out and see the world? What book have you read or what movie have you watched that has inspired you to travel? </p><p style="font-size: 13.2px;"><span style="font-size: medium; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: inherit;">No I do not miss traveling. Sadly I am not much of a traveler anymore. Yes Covid definitely has made me more anxious and fearful about traveling. Not so much about the virus but more about restrictions on travel, quarantine rules, etc. Can't think of a recent book or movie that has inspired me to travel. </span></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">3. A time you felt like you were 'flying by the seat of your pants'? Explain. </p><p style="font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;"><span style="font-size: medium; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: inherit;">I think it was my first teaching job. In retrospect I should not have taken the job. It was a Hebrew Preschool that provided Special Education services. I am not Jewish and a very limited understanding of the Orthodox community. I had a class of twelve little ones, ages 18 months to 4 years old with various needs. I wasn't given a curriculum or really any direction. Many of the children had to be carried, some were deaf, some had various health needs. In my opinion they should not have been grouped together like that. It was very difficult to meet all of their needs. I was so relieved to leave half way through the year and found a much more suitable teaching position for me. Looking back I don't know how I did it except by flying by the seat of my pants. I don't like knowing I didn't do my best :( </span></span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">4. Do you struggle with road rage or are you more of a 'Sunday driver'? Do you like to be 'in the driver's seat <i>(literally and/or figuratively speaking) </i>?</p><p style="font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;"><span style="font-size: medium; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #990000; font-family: inherit;">I do not have road rage although I can be tempted to get annoyed at other drivers at times. Actually just the other day I was in the passenger seat and my daughter was driving. A car turned out and it appeared he was unaware of oncoming traffic. My daughter swerved slightly. I reacted and in retrospect should have been calmer. My daughter reminded me of that ;) I am not a 'Sunday driver'. Yes I like to be in the driver's seat figuratively speaking but I prefer for my husband to drive most of the time. </span></span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">5. Let's start things off right...Wednesday is National Dessert Day. What are we having? </span><span style="text-align: left;">How often do you make/serve dessert? Store bought or from scratch? </span></div><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium;"><span style="color: #741b47;">I am having sliced banana, spread with PB2 (peanut butter powder bc it has no oil therefore less fat) and frozen, topped with a drizzle of chocolate syrup, light whipped cream and a few sprinkles. That is because I am on WW. For the rest of the family I usually make from scratch desserts like blondies, chocolate chip cookies, apple crisp or chocolate cake. If I don't bake anything we sometimes have ice cream or store bought cookies around. </span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">2. Slow as molasses, icing on the cake, that's the way the cookie crumbles, have your cake and eat it too, half-baked idea, that takes the cake...which phrase might be applied to something in your life in recent days? I started WW eight weeks ago. I am losing weight and I have not been hungry. As long as I plan my meals and snacks ahead of time and incorporate a treat each day I think I can stick with it. In the past any diet I have tried restricted certain food groups and that made it hard to maintain long term. </span></span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">3. I don't remember what book I read this in...but the author included checking your nails as part of the preparations made the night before church because you don't want to look down and see your nails a mess on Sunday morning. It really stuck with me. </span></span></p><p style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">4. I really do not like the new Blogger. I was trying to figure out how to use the various features and before I knew it they were gone. Apparently there is no way of getting them back. That was frustrating! I still can't seem to get my formatting and font the way I like it either. I will have to keep working on it and see if I can figure it out. If I can I will feel like a smart cookie for sure!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #741b47;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #741b47;">Have a great rest of the week</span> 😀</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsX6kJTDb53HPeADY5NdLI18XD3F0-f0Ijjaf9kYtbxKALnEOC1h6h8NlOQV3T21vNO6TrO9SA1tlRy8COVDSNofVYzQSFyhbjEIeIr9KLS6yE5Vo2N8LJ2WKlSvgu2-tM1BKZZMPHhIFL/s135/15fd5232dee88bb66a2a11c1a44895de.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="84" data-original-width="135" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsX6kJTDb53HPeADY5NdLI18XD3F0-f0Ijjaf9kYtbxKALnEOC1h6h8NlOQV3T21vNO6TrO9SA1tlRy8COVDSNofVYzQSFyhbjEIeIr9KLS6yE5Vo2N8LJ2WKlSvgu2-tM1BKZZMPHhIFL/s0/15fd5232dee88bb66a2a11c1a44895de.png" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><p></p>Theresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09807434285554893291noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481064975235212785.post-14616502154535529642020-10-07T12:55:00.009-04:002020-10-07T12:57:15.174-04:00Wednesday's Nice Everyday Hodgepodge<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPycQuKiWG0NZGmPWHYGH5-xN_t9onTY3Bcebp61mYrSqhO7wn1txX8nVCkGoLwPotsDjrz7P8aqPidRoD8OZcOwx1FLLWeH6Tz6GYhLm7s0ZLjfCZIW42c1trdoGe6ihQBmX1XgSyPZG/s273/hodgepodge-button.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="250" data-original-width="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPycQuKiWG0NZGmPWHYGH5-xN_t9onTY3Bcebp61mYrSqhO7wn1txX8nVCkGoLwPotsDjrz7P8aqPidRoD8OZcOwx1FLLWeH6Tz6GYhLm7s0ZLjfCZIW42c1trdoGe6ihQBmX1XgSyPZG/s0/hodgepodge-button.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Visit <a href="www.fromthissideofthepond.com" target="_blank">Joyce</a> and join the fun! </div><p></p><div style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: center;">1. <span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">1. Something you've done in recent days or months that might be described as a labor of love?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Getting things ready for school to start. My son started 10th grade and since we homeschool I organized all of his books and my paperwork so we would be off to a smooth start. I wanted to help my daughter who started college but she had it all figured out. I am adjusting ;) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">2. Last time you 'worked your fingers to the bone'?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Back in July when I helped a friend move out of her home. I deep cleaned after it was empty. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">3. According to a recent survey people named the following ten jobs as the hardest-</span><i style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">nurse, doctor, paramedic, police officer, firefighter, surgeon, healthcare worker, bomb squad, farmer, and prison warden</i><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">. Of the jobs listed which would </span><i style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">you</i><span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;"> say is the hardest? The one you'd most like to do? Least like to do? What's one job you would add to the list?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The hardest- a surgeon. I would not want to do any of these jobs. If I had to pick one it would be a farmer because although it is super hard work you aren't dealing with life or death situations. I would least likely want to be part of the bomb squad. My heart races and hands shake at the thought ;)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I would add teachers to the list. I know some people think teachers have it easy but to be an effective, good teacher is very hard work. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">4. A recipe you make that is labor intensive, but worth it?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Eggplant Parmesan. I make it every year for my husband's birthday, which happens to be in a couple of weeks. There are so many steps to it and it takes a long time to make. There are always so many pots and pans to clean when I am finished. It is his favorite dish and he gets so happy when I make it so that makes it worth it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">5. Last job you did or task you completed that required teamwork?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can't think of anything. It feels like so long since I've worked with anyone. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">6. Insert your own random thought here.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Beware of the newest scam going around. Last night I received a phone call from someone claiming to be from Amazon. The Caller ID came up "Amazon Customer Service" and it even had the correct phone number. The woman said they noticed suspicious activity on my account and wanted to know if anyone in Ohio had access to my account. I said no. She said there was an order placed for an iPhone for $750 and she would need to transfer me to the security department. Then she asked if I had my cell phone so they could call me. I said no way, connect me through this line. She said no she needed my cell phone. I told her she is being reported and it is a scam! She calmly said "Ok, you can do that". I hung up and immediately called Amazon to report it. There wasn't any suspicious activity on my account. These hackers can do just about anything including making whatever they want come up on Caller ID. I hope they figure out a way to stop these phone scams. It is sad to hear of people getting taken, especially the elderly. </div>

<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">1. The Hodgepodge lands on the second day of a brand new month. Tell us one thing you're looking forward to in September.</span><br />
<br />
Cooler weather! I love being able to open the windows and have crisp, cool air blowing through the house. Although that may not happen yet. Some years September has been very warm.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">2. Do you enjoy browsing second-hand shops? Last thing you bought or 'inherited' second hand?</span><br />
<br />
No, I don't enjoy browsing second-hand shops. It just is not my thing. The last thing I bought second hand was a beautiful cherry china cabinet. It was never used but was sitting in someone's house. Her mother bought it when she was moving and then found out it wouldn't fit in her new place. The daughter had no room for it and listed it on FB Marketplace. We had to rent a truck from Home Depot but even with that expense it was a steal!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">3. Something you had second thoughts about after committing to, purchasing, or posting/commenting online?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is something I committed to but if I post it here I will have second thoughts about posting it online! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">4. What's a product or service you use that you'd rate as second to none?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Amazon Prime. Even though there were some delays in the height of COVID, I still can get almost anything I want or need delivered to my door in two days. Their return policy is very good and hassle-free. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 13.2px;">5. Something you do so often or that comes so naturally to you it's second nature ?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Taking off my shoes when I come into the house. I have been doing that for years and don't even think about it. It keeps the dirt and germs from the bottom of our shoes from getting tracked through the house. I have indoor flip-flops and on a couple of occasions I have walked outside wearing them. They then became outside shoes ;) </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have been on a weight roller coaster for a long time. I lose weight, then I gain it. Repeat. Last week I impulsively joined WW digital. I have only told a few friends but am trying not to say too much in case I don't stick with it. I lost 4 lbs. so far and haven't had to eliminate any foods. If I want something, I work it into my points and enjoy it. Here's hoping I stick with it! </div>

The Hodgepodge lands on National Dog Day this year (August 26th). Do you own a dog? Did you have a dog when you were growing up, or maybe some other kind of pet? Neither is okay too : )</span><br style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;" /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I do not own a dog. I had a dog when I was growing up. I was heartbroken when we had to put him down and said I would never go through that again. I would love to have a dog now but my husband is not onboard. Not yet, anyway ;) I am more of a dog person for sure. I don't like cats and am allergic to them. It is one of those movies I can watch over and over again. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgglOX3XxeI495xJLQm1dEXPZkgGwdRIYlUWvOt20UaYdQ_QZR3UrJ5B5QLW4rTgmQNCm9bQt2uddh7tVJU-MpAmn8mPL7uhv63yfCb2wdK-_IcnlhddWa6ejJko0YLBsKIalXsTBJsR3Lf/s352/tom-hanks-meg-ryan-and-the-dog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="352" data-original-width="236" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgglOX3XxeI495xJLQm1dEXPZkgGwdRIYlUWvOt20UaYdQ_QZR3UrJ5B5QLW4rTgmQNCm9bQt2uddh7tVJU-MpAmn8mPL7uhv63yfCb2wdK-_IcnlhddWa6ejJko0YLBsKIalXsTBJsR3Lf/s0/tom-hanks-meg-ryan-and-the-dog.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">5. Today the humidity is low and there is a beautiful breeze. It is a perfect summer day. Tomorrow the oppressive heat is forecasted to return so that will mean staying in the AC or going in the pool. I do not tolerate heat well at all. I don't think I could survive living in the South. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_nScmfsW9ByhueCZbU3DrSYIbui0HKfdciTTwIwoxh_djYtpnGbi_WMq5UsCp3mD9YXKuUavyHamPA1LYcstOaxzkylu8JhbC52ct7M0XafaxxlPa0xfAq0Ih5s4SYaNMejO_bMQlQbvb/s135/15fd5232dee88bb66a2a11c1a44895de.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="84" data-original-width="135" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_nScmfsW9ByhueCZbU3DrSYIbui0HKfdciTTwIwoxh_djYtpnGbi_WMq5UsCp3mD9YXKuUavyHamPA1LYcstOaxzkylu8JhbC52ct7M0XafaxxlPa0xfAq0Ih5s4SYaNMejO_bMQlQbvb/s0/15fd5232dee88bb66a2a11c1a44895de.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><p></p>Theresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09807434285554893291noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2481064975235212785.post-7194860796462816212020-08-19T07:23:00.000-04:002020-08-19T07:23:35.761-04:00Wednesday's Five Hodgepodge<p style="text-align: center;"> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPycQuKiWG0NZGmPWHYGH5-xN_t9onTY3Bcebp61mYrSqhO7wn1txX8nVCkGoLwPotsDjrz7P8aqPidRoD8OZcOwx1FLLWeH6Tz6GYhLm7s0ZLjfCZIW42c1trdoGe6ihQBmX1XgSyPZG/s273/hodgepodge-button.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="250" data-original-width="273" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDPycQuKiWG0NZGmPWHYGH5-xN_t9onTY3Bcebp61mYrSqhO7wn1txX8nVCkGoLwPotsDjrz7P8aqPidRoD8OZcOwx1FLLWeH6Tz6GYhLm7s0ZLjfCZIW42c1trdoGe6ihQBmX1XgSyPZG/s0/hodgepodge-button.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Visit <a href="http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/" target="_blank">Joyce</a> and join the fun!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">1. Five years ago this month hubs and I relocated from New Jersey to the Palmetto State. What were you doing five years ago this month?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We were also moving this month five years ago. Not as far as Joyce, just around the block. We moved in with my mother-in-law to help with her care since she was alone and getting older. We did that for three years before she passed two years ago, also this month. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">2. What was the last 9-5 job you worked? Tell us about it.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I don't think I ever worked the traditional hours of 9-5 on any type of regular basis. My last job was as a teacher and my hours were 8:30-3:30. I taught second grade in a lovely primary school in a beautiful, quaint village by the Bay. It was an answer to my prayers. That year over 3,000 teachers interviewed for positions in that school district. It was a long interview process and one of the requirements was to teach a demo. lesson. I was assigned to a second grade class with a teacher I wished I would be like one day. There were five elementary schools I could have been assigned to but this one was my absolute favorite. I prayed to get second grade in that building and I did! I ended up teaching alongside the teacher I wanted to be like. I loved that job for the five years I was there. My coworkers and students were wonderful. I still think about those students who are in their 20s now. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">3. Plead the fifth, high five, take five, it's five o'clock somewhere, or the big 5-0...which number five phrase relates to your life in some way currently? Tell us how.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Plead the fifth. My daughter was trying to plead the fifth when I was asking her questions about what type of bedroom furniture she likes. She is getting ready to start college and will be commuting so I thought a new bedroom set with a desk would be nice. She thinks her furniture is fine and doesn't think she needs a new set. If I knew what kind she actually liked I might just surprise her. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, "Palatino Linotype", Palatino, serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-align: start;">4. During this season of spending so much time at home, what distractions get in the way of being your most productive? Or have you been extra productive since this whole thing started?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I can get distracted while browsing on my laptop. Insert your own random thought here.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Did you know there are now apps to be used to trace if you have been exposed to COVID-19? While I understand that this may initially sound like a good idea, I think it is an invasion of privacy as to one's whereabouts. I saw this posted on social media:</div><p></p><div class="moz-text-html" lang="x-unicode">
<p style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px 0px 6px;">Heads up! Good bad or
indifferent:</p>
<p style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; margin: 6px 0px;">FYI: Do you know that a
" Covid-19 " sensor has been inserted secretly into every phone.
Apparently when every one was having a phone disruption earlier
this week, they were adding COVID -19 trackers to our phones.<br />
If you have an android phone, go under settings, then look for
Google settings and see if it's there.<br />
If you are using an iPhone, go under settings, privacy, then
health, it's there but not yet functional. The app can notify you
if <span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline; font-family: inherit;">you've been near someone that
has reported having COVID-19.<br />
Don't turn it on because you will be traced everywhere you go
but once you update your phone, it will automatically be turned
on on our phones. Just remember to go back in and turn it off.</span></p>

I checked my phone and yes it is there.</p>
