Truth for Thursday

I am continuing “Truth for Thursday” here at Being Refined As Silver.  We are on the last chapter of “Lies Women Believe”, chapter 11: “The Truth That Sets Us Free”.  It will take several weeks to review this chapter, so I hope you will continue to come back each week.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss encourages her readers to take time to savor these liberating, life-changing truths.  She suggests saying each Truth aloud, again and again until your thinking becomes aligned with God’s way of thinking.

Here is the nineteenth truth:

God is more concerned about changing me and glorifying Himself than about solving my problems.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.”  Romans 8:28-29

When faced with a problem, is our first reaction to look for, or even demand a solution?  For most of us the answer is yes.  What if we actually stopped and meditated on the verse above?  If we truly believe God’s Word we can rest in the truth that all things (problems and trials included) are working together for good.  “If we do not recognize and embrace God’s purposes and process in our lives, we will become obsessed with finding a way out of our problems.  We will become despondent and angry when God does not “cooperate” with our agenda.” (DeMoss, page 263)

The things that matter most to us most be secondary to what matters most to Him, which is that we reflect His glory.  We may not always understand how our trials can bring Him glory, but we can trust that His Word is true.

If you are in the middle of a trial right now, may I encourage you to seek what God has for you to learn through this.  Don’t be so focused on “when it is over” that you are missing the lessons God has for you right now.

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.”  James 1:2-3

How has God tested your faith?

  1. Thank you for this truth for today! To be a reflection of Him and a testimony of His character is what I desire in all areas of my life. I fail, but am thankful for another day to try again.

  3. I have had my faith tested a time or two or three or...

But He is faithful and it's never more than we can bare, and this "light affliction" is going to be SO worth it. Eternal life, the best is yet to be!

    God Bless

  5. Thanks for this message, Theresa. I recently read a Christian article about anger at God and a similar point was made. It's certainly one to give some serious thought and attention to.
    Blessings,
    Toni ;)
