Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1.Have you ever been 'asked' to report for jury duty? Were you chosen to serve? If not, were you happy or disappointed?

Yes, I have been called for jury duty. I was questioned for a jury but thankfully they didn't pick me. I was so happy because I didn't want to miss any more of my new teaching job.

2. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very), how mechanically inclined are you? Give an example to back up your answer.

I guess a 3. My husband is trained as a mechanical engineer so anything that needs to be put together around here goes to him. I am able to use a screwdriver and change batteries though :)

3. Beets-cabbage-cauliflower-butternut squash....of the four, which is your favorite fall vegetable?

Butternut squash is my favorite. I love it baked and then topped with butter.

4. What do you recommend to overcome self-pity?

Stop thinking of yourself and serve others. When you are busy seeing how you can meet another's needs, you don't have time to feel sorry for yourself.

5. Do you enjoy classical music?

Yes. It has a very relaxing effect on me. I need to put it on more often ;)

6. October is National Book Month...what's on your reading list this month?

I just started reading "Instruments in The Redeemer's Hands" by Paul David Tripp. It will take me at least this month to finish.

7. What is your idea of 'cute'?

Easy question...my kids of course!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

What is your favorite last minute dinner to prepare? Maybe I'll get some ideas for dinner tonight :)

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark out. It was hot today. The past few days have been in the 80's. What a diffence a week can make. I am looking forward to the cooler weather returning later in the week.

I am thinking... time to get the kids to bed.

I am thankful for... friends who tell you the truth even if it may not be what you want to hear.

From the learning rooms... the kids did their schoolwork today even though the schools here were closed for Columbus Day.

From the kitchen... I baked banana chocolate chip muffins for breakfast. They were half whole wheat flour and didn't have a lot of sugar- perfect with milk for breakfast. We had baked ziti for dinner which my husband made with my directions. I was relaxing on the couch since I didn't feel well.

I am wearing... brown capris with a brown floral patterned shirt.

I am going... to the dentist on Wednesday. Ugh! I have been putting it off but need to get some serious work done.

I am reading... the Bible, "Womanly Dominion", "Instruments in The Redeemer's Hands"

I am hearing... the A/C! Do you believe it?

One of my favorite things... apple picking and The North Fork of Long Island. We went on Saturday and it was a great day.

A picture for sharing... sorry, but I don't have any this week. I took a few at the apple orchard but then my memory card was full.

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. What's your favorite meal to serve on a chilly autumn evening?

Pot roast with gravy, mashed potatoes and veggies. I cook the meat in the crockpot and it makes the whole house smell delicious.

2. Are you a creature of habit? Explain.

Um, yes I think so. Can't wait to read other's responses to this one!

3. What food product (no longer readily available) do you remember and miss from days gone by?

Soda made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. I see every once in a while they sell "Pepsi Throwback" but it is very hard to find.

4. What's something you've lost that you've never been able to find? Any theories as to what happened?

One of the side diamonds in my engagement ring. I noticed it was gone while loading groceries into my car about eight years ago. I went through the parking lot trying to look, but there was so much gravel, sand and little pebbles I would never find it! I eventually gave up and told my husband. I thought he would be upset, but he wasn't and had it replaced. I think the setting was loose from the car accident I had before that. One of the prongs on the center stone was bent so I guess it loosened the side ones as well.

5. Zoo~circus~ carnival...your favorite?

Carnival. It was a toss up between the zoo and the carnival, but then I thought of Zeppoles and made my choice easy. For those of you who don't know what Zeppoles are...they are fried pieces of dough covered in powdered sugar. And no, they are not like funnel cakes. There really is nothing else like them. You buy them by the bag full. Then you shake the bag to get the powdered sugar all over the hot Zeppoles. You eat them while walking through the carnival, trying not to make too much of a mess and hoping you don't have powdered sugar all over your face!

6. What song makes you feel instantly happy? (Please pause the music on my playlist before listening. You can find it in my right sidebar just above this section.)

7. To what extent are you an argumentative person?

I usually continue until I get my point across and then realize that I am not going to change certain people's minds- LOL!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Was your favorite David Cassidy or Shaun Cassidy? Shaun Cassidy was more of the rage when I was a kid!

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark and there is a cool breeze coming through my living room window :) Today felt like fall for sure. It was in the 50s. It is so nice to shut the A/C off and open the windows.

I am thinking... my thyroid levels are still elevated. I spoke to my doctor today and she is mailing out my lab results to me. I hope they came down at least a bit.

I am thankful for... friends. I spoke to one of my friends that moved away a few months ago this morning. Another one of my friends is moving away this week. I am thankful for emails and the phone to keep in touch.

From the learning rooms... my daughter was not feeling well today. We had some computer time and TV. Tomorrow will be double work.

From the kitchen... the meat didn't defrost for dinner so we had tortilla chips, salsa and cheese for dinner. Not the best but everyone seems satisfied.

I am wearing... pink pj's and a towel on my head (I exercised so needed to take a shower).

I am going... to the chiropractor, acupuncturist, soccer and church this week.

I am reading... the Bible, "Womanly Dominion".

I am hearing... "Prince and the Pauper" on the TV.

One of my favorite things... the crisp air of autumn.

A picture for sharing... this was taken two years ago when we went apple picking. I am still trying to go this season :)
