Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark and cold. Typical winter in NY :) More snow is on its way!

I am thinking... I have been on this computer way too much today.

I am thankful for... a family that knows how to be silly.

From the learning rooms... hitting the books today; a little bit of everything.

From the kitchen... leftover sliders with homemade rolls, oven baked french fries, chicken to fill in, and salad.

I am wearing... gray sweat pants and a gray t-shirt. Barefoot at the moment :) I love being barefoot.

I am going... to the chiro. tomorrow :)

I am reading... the Bible, Womanly Dominion: More than a Meek and Gentle Spirit.

I am hearing... my husband playing Wii, my son chewing (LOL).

One of my favorite things... being with family.

White as Snow

"Come now, and let us reason together, Says the LORD,
Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool."
Isaiah 1:18

I love that verse! Especially on a day when I woke up to another 18inches of snow!

Be My Valentine Marriage Challenge

Here is week two's challenge from Courtney:

This week's challenge is: be a little more creative with your praise. Surprise your husband with:

1. A love message on the mirror

2. A love message packed in his lunch

3. Use sidewalk chalk and write a love message on the driveway

4. Write a list of ten things you admire about him and then read them out loud to him.

5. Make a toast to him at dinner with friends. Or raise your glass at dinner and list the things you admire about your husband for your children to hear!

6. Buy or make your husband a trophy and engrave it with the words "The Best Husband in the World." (I found a cheap trophy at a party supplies store - the kids loved presenting it to daddy)

7. Write a poem - even if you can't write - it can be goofy. Include in it references to your favorite movies, restaurants, places to go and memories. He will enjoy the trip down memory lane and the laugh!

8- Blow up balloons and put a loving message in each one. Fill your bedroom with balloons as a surprise.

9- Take a roll of receipt tape and write a long message with the things you admire and respect about your husband - then roll it up and put it in a bottle for your husband to open and read. (I made many of these for my husband in college when we were dating long distance. I mailed them in packages.)

10. Get creative with your selflessness!

So I challenge you today to not just show your husband you love him but show him that you LIKE him!

Thanks for the challenge, Courtney. I personally like #4. Is that because it is straightforward and not too creative? Maybe it is because it doesn't require any extra cleaning like writing on the mirror would? Perhaps it is just because it is so easy to think of ten things that I like about my husband!

I have read the book "The Excellent Wife" by Martha Peace several times (she signed my book at a women's retreat when I was engaged!). Today I would like to share something from it. Here it is:
Eighteen Ways to glorify Your Husband
(Taken from “The Excellent Wife” by Martha Peace)
1.Ask your husband, “What are your goals for the week?”
2.Ask your husband, “How can I help you accomplish these goals?”
3.Ask your husband, “Is there anything that I can do differently that would make it easier for you?”
4.Be organized with cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, and cooking. As you fulfill your God-given responsibilities, your husband is then free to do his work.
5.Save some of your energy every day for him.
6.Put him first over the children, your parents, friends, job, ladies’ Bible studies, etc.
7.Willingly and cheerfully rearrange your schedule for him when necessary.
8.Talk about him in a positive light to others. Do not slander him at all, even if what you are saying is true.
9.Do whatever you can to make him look good, to accomplish his goals. Some examples are to offer to run errands for him, organize your day to be available to help him with his projects, pray for him and make good suggestions. Give him the freedom not to use your suggestion, and do not be offended if he does not follow it.
10.Consider his work (job, goals, hobbies, work for the Lord) as more important than your own.
11.Think of specific ways that you can help him accomplish his goals. Examples are get up early in the mornings to help him get off to work having had a good breakfast, take care in recording telephone messages for him, anticipate any needs he may have in order to attain a specific goal, and keep careful records of money spent to keep up with the budget.
12.Consider the things that you are involved in. How do they glorify your husband? Ask his guidance.
13.Be warm and gracious to his family and friends. Make your commitment to him obvious to them.
14.Do and say things that build him up instead of tear him down.
15.Dress and apply your makeup in an attractive way that is pleasing to your husband.
16.When your husband sins, reprove him privately and gently, always giving him hope and pointing him to the Lord.
17.Encourage him to use his spiritual gifts in ministry.
18.Realize that just as God is glorified when man obeys Him, your husband is glorified when you obey your husband.

Let's give glory to our Lord as we glorify our husbands!

Outside my window... it is dark and freezing. We were at 12 degrees today and the forecast says 1 degree tonight! BRRR!!!

I am thinking... it has been 14 years today since my eyes first saw my husband.

I am thankful for... 14 years of knowing my husband. He is funny, kind, honest and always determined to do what is right.

From the learning rooms... lots of work- learning sound /k/ spelled c, k and ck, multiplication and lots more. Trying to catch up from the holidays still.

From the kitchen... turkey kielbasa, home fries and broccoli.

I am wearing... jeans, an ivory fleece shirt from Lands End- it is so comfy.

I am going... to a birthday party this weekend.

I am reading... the Bible, Womanly Dominion: More than a Meek and Gentle Spirit.

I am hearing... the vacuum. My husband and son are cleaning up the sawdust from a wood project they did.

One of my favorite things... flannel sheets. Especially on nights like tonight.

Truth For Thursday

I am continuing “Truth for Thursday” here at Being Refined As Silver.  We are on the last chapter of “Lies Women Believe”, chapter 11: “The Truth That Sets Us Free”.  This will be the last review of this book, but I hope you will continue to come back each week.  I am getting ready to start reviewing another book.  Stay posted to find out what it will be :)

Nancy Leigh DeMoss encourages her readers to take time to savor these liberating, life-changing truths.  She suggests saying each Truth aloud, again and again until your thinking becomes aligned with God’s way of thinking.

I am a bit sad to have reached the last truth from the book.  Well, here it is, the twenty-second truth:

It is not about me; it’s all about Him.

“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.  All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.  And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” Colossians 1:16-18

“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”  Revelation 4:11

Nancy Leigh DeMoss writes, “Before we can respond in a godly way to the circumstances of life, we must first settle this basic issue: What is my purpose in life?  If our goal in life is to be happy or accepted or loved, then anything that threatens our well-being will be an enemy-an obstacle to fulfilling our objective.  On the other hand, once we agree with God that we exist for His pleasure and His glory, we can accept whatever comes in to our lives as part of His sovereign will and purpose.”  (page 265)

What a great truth to finish on.  No matter what we do, we need to keep a biblical  world view.  It isn’t about us, it is about God.  We were created by Him and for Him.  We are to give Him glory in all things.

Another Challenge

I am joining in another challenge from Courtney, at Women Living Well. This one is "The 25 Day Praise Plan- Marriage Challenge". Want to join me?

The following was taken directly from Courtney's post today:
Week 1 starts TODAY! Look for ways to praise your husband verbally. Praise him in front of the kids, friends, family, co-workers, on facebook, tweet it - get praise out anyway you can! Try to mention something noteworthy he has done - in his role as provider, father, husband, lover, or friend. If the thought of trying to come up with one terrifies you, then pray right now that God will give you new eyes to see your husband as God does. Then open your mouth and say something kind and uplifting to your husband today and tomorrow and the next day until Valentine's Day arrives!(if you want a devotional to go along with this Nancy Leigh Demoss has an amazing Marriage Pdf here)

Sometimes it is easier to talk about how great our husbands are to others rather than to him. It really is important that we don't take our husbands for granted and let them know how great they are. Isn't that what we want them to do for us?

"And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise." Luke 6:31

Truth For Thursday

I am continuing “Truth for Thursday” here at Being Refined As Silver.  We are on the last chapter of “Lies Women Believe”, chapter 11: “The Truth That Sets Us Free”.  It will take several weeks to review this chapter, so I hope you will continue to come back each week.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss encourages her readers to take time to savor these liberating, life-changing truths.  She suggests saying each Truth aloud, again and again until your thinking becomes aligned with God’s way of thinking.

Here is the twenty-first truth:

My suffering will not last forever.

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.  For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”  2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Nancy Leigh DeMoss writes, “All suffering is purposeful and intentional.  God has a specific objective in mind for our suffering.  He knows exactly the intensity and the duration that are needed to fulfill His purposes.  He will not allow any suffering to last any longer or to be any more severe than is necessary to accomplish His will.” (page 264-265)

In the midst of suffering we often feel like it will never end.  It is difficult to see beyond the moment.  We can’t rely on our feelings, but we can rely on God’s Word and it tells us differently.  As Christians there will be an end to our suffering.

"Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for the new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”  2 Peter 3:13

We can keep fighting the good fight knowing that He has promised to be with us to the end.

“For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5

We can take comfort in knowing that our suffering will not last forever.

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.  There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”  Revelation 21:4

Praise God!

Tech. Help Quick Please!

Okay I am trying to stay calm! I don't know what I did, but most of my posts that I did on Windows Live are gone. I was typing up a post tonight and hit "save draft" thinking I was saving my post as I was typing it. Somehow I must have been wrong. That post didn't publish (it is saved as a draft) and all the older ones with the same title are gone. If anyone knows how I can get them back I would be most appreciative :)
