Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. What is something that bothers you if it's not done perfectly?

Putting things in their proper place. If the kids clean up the playroom/schoolroom and things are in the wrong place it bothers me. There is a spot for everything, including labeled bins!

2. Do you think a 6th sense exists? Explain.

No. I believe that the Holy Spirit dwells in Christians though.

3. Do you say your goodbyes slowly, quickly, or not at all?

Quickly. I know I am a sap so try to make it as fast as possible.

4. On a scale of 1-10, with ten being hot hot hot, what level of spice do you like in your food? What's your favorite 'spicy' dish?

I guess a 3. I like my hot wings mild-medium. But even then I need bleu cheese dressing ;)

5. What is one of your all time favorite commercial jingles?

We have a commercial here for our state's lottery. They have a big ball pit with a man jumping in while the song "More than a feeling" by Boston is playing. I love it!
I don't think that counts as a jingle though. The only one I can think of is the whistle for PC Richards and it sticks in my head!

6. Plane, train, boat or auto...your preferred method of travel?

Auto! I like driving and being able to stop when I want. Next would be a boat since I love water.

7. What is something you take for granted?

Living in this wonderful country of The United States of America and all the freedoms we have.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I typed numbers 1-6 with one hand. The other hand was holding my laptop plug in. It seems the connection is lose again. We had it fixed already a few months ago and it cost a couple of hundred dollars. Not sure if I will do that again! While I was typing #6 it went dead. So I now I am on my husband's computer in the basement and it is SLOW. So I am not sure when I will visit all your blogs, but I hope soon :)

Earthquaaaake!

Wow, I never thought about earthquakes here in NY. This afternoon I was sitting on the couch watching Baby Story. It felt like someone was shaking my couch. I asked my daughter if my son was hiding behind the couch thinking he was bumping into it. She said her chair was moving too but I thought she was just kidding. I thought my vertigo was kicking in and I was having an attack. It wasn't until a few minutes later that my aunt from Florida called and asked me if I felt the earthquake. Thank God that it wasn't a vertigo attack. Anyone who has ever had dizziness can relate!
Anyone else on the east coast feel it?

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark out now. Today was a perfect summer day- sunny and very low humidity. I enjoyed floating around in the pool and was actually chilly a couple of times!

I am thinking... where does all the laundry come from? Really, it feels like it is a never-ending pile.

I am thankful for... a husband who is willing to do the food shopping for me.

From the learning rooms... we picked up the armoire last week. I cleaned out the schoolroom and found a place for it. We added some more to the pile for a garage sale and I moved some things around.

From the kitchen... I made cinnamon rolls and whole wheat rolls on Saturday. There aren't any left though ;)

I am wearing... a blue v-neck and light stone colored shorts.

I am going... to acupuncture and church on Wednesday and getting my hair done on Thursday.

I am reading... the Bible, Womanly Dominion: More than a Meek and Gentle Spirit by Mark Chanski, The Ministry of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson, Beautiful in God's Eyes by Elizabeth George.

I am hearing... the A/C and the TV. I am watching HGTV.

One of my favorite things... a tan. I hope I got some color today while I was out in the pool.

A picture for sharing... same as last week- but it is now mine!

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. Using what's in your frig right now what sort of meal would you be able to make for guests who are knocking at the front door this very minute?

Pancakes and sausage- flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs, milk, butter, maple syrup, frozen Jones breakfast sausage- check! It is an easy go-to quick recipe. Kids especially love it no matter what time of day.

2. What is something about yourself that you hope will change but that probably never will?

Why is it that I think of my weight right away? I am sure this question is looking for some internal quality but honestly that is what came to mind. I have never been one who can eat whatever I want and not gain weight. I don't think that will change, although it would be real nice :)

3. What's something about yourself that you hope will never change?

My love for people. I am a loyal friend. I like to think I am dependable.

4. Do you usually send serious or funny greeting cards? Why?

Usually serious cards. I am somewhat of a mush and I cry at Hallmark commercials...need I say more?!

5. Bird watching, shell gathering, or star gazing- your choice for whiling away the hours?

Star gazing. I love sitting out on a cool night (as long as the mosquitoes have gone for the season). I look at each star and know that God has placed it exactly where it is in the sky.

6. Do you double or triple check things? If so, what?

Who, me? LOL! The door to make sure it is locked, the stove to make sure it is off, the hair dryer to make sure it is unplugged. I am sure there is more but those were the ones that immediately came to mind.

7. What's your favorite place for people watching?

The park. I love watching people interact with children. It is so sweet to hear parents and grandparents talking sweetly to their children and grandchildren. I realize that isn't always the case....but that is what I like to see.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Today my husband and I went to pick up that armoire that I wanted. On the way back we took the parkway next to the ocean. I opened the window to smell the salt in the air. I couldn't help but put my feet up and let the wind toss my hair all over. It felt like we were on vacation in some exotic place. Isn't it funny how many places all around us are so amazing yet we don't often go there? At least I know I don't. I definitely want to make a point of getting to the beach more often and bringing my kids to the ocean.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark out. It was cloudy for most of the day.

I am thinking... I am almost ready for school to start. As much as I love the summer break I miss the routine of the school year.

I am thankful for... living near the water. We took the kids to the harbor for fishing on Saturday- well my husband did while I sat on the bench. I tried going on the dock with them until I realized it was a floating dock and I got off quick! Ever since my dizziness I can't take that motion. After that we went to the beach and had dinner there. I relaxed while the kids tried fishing again. It was a beautiful day enjoying some of the treasures here on Long Island.

From the learning rooms... I am thinking of changing the school room around. I have a few things in mind and keep looking on Craig's List for ideas :) I think I found the perfect armoire. Now if only my husband takes me to get it ;)

From the kitchen... last night I made peach cobbler. A real easy recipe I found on one of the blogs I follow.

I am wearing... a gray shirt from Old Navy and striped pajama capris (don't ask)- LOL.

I am going... to hopefully get my new armoire this week. I don't really have much else planned.

I am reading... the Bible, Womanly Dominion: More than a Meek and Gentle Spirit by Mark Chanski, The Ministry of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson, Beautiful in God's Eyes by Elizabeth George.

I am hearing... the kids playing, the A/C and the TV.

One of my favorite things... the beach. I love looking out at the water and observing God's beautiful creation. I think of the verse about how He takes our sin and buries it into the deepest part of the sea. Isn't that awesome?!

A picture for sharing... isn't it nice? I hope we get it.

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. If you could work for any one government agency which would you choose and why? (if you're in the US here's a helpful list)

I would have to say The Administration for Developmental Disabilities. I don't know much about it, but since I taught Special Education I thought it was close.

2. How difficult is it for you to forgive someone who refuses to apologize?

It isn't easy but remembering that Jesus forgave me helps make it a bit easier.

3. What is your favorite meatless supper?

Potato pancakes with apple sauce. It is too hot to stand over a hot oil pan in the summer, but love making it when the weather is cooler.

4. Wednesday August 10th is National Lazy Day...will you be celebrating? If so, tell us how so we can be lazy too.

I didn't know today was National Lazy Day and as a matter of fact I was pretty busy. But I guess the few lazy days I had last week were enough. It was so hot I didn't have much energy to do anything but sit in the A/C.

5. As a child did you have any special back to school traditions and if so, what were they? If you're a parent did you carry on those traditions with your own children?

We always went clothes and shoes shopping for the new school year. Since I homeschool my children we didn't carry on that one :)

6. Write a summer tongue twister.

Really, you don't want me to. I look forward to reading everyone else's though.

7. Would you be interested in observing a surgery or do you turn away when the nurse brings out the needle?

I have no interest in observing a surgery. I do like watching The Baby Story but have to turn my head every now and then.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I am watching Little House on The Prairie right now. Do you ever wonder if they had a better life than us today in the year 2011?

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... The sun is shining and the birds are chirping.

I am thinking... the summer is going so quickly.

I am thankful for... a home to live in, food to eat and clothes on my back.

From the learning rooms... I am thinking of changing the school room around. I have a few things in mind and keep looking on Craig's List for ideas :)

From the kitchen... we had homemade whole wheat pizza last night and I have some sauce left- so maybe some kind of pasta.

I am wearing... periwinkle pajama shorts and top from Lands End.

I am going... to the chiropractor tonight, acupuncture Wednesday, to play mini-golf, bumper boats and rides for the kids on Thursday. I hope to get to the beach one day this week too.

I am reading... the Bible, Womanly Dominion: More than a Meek and Gentle Spirit by Mark Chanski, The Ministry of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson, Beautiful in God's Eyes by Elizabeth George.

I am hearing... the fan, Mrs. Spider's Sunnypatch Friends and birds chirping.

One of my favorite things... being up early while the house is still quiet. I was up at 5 this morning, although by 6:30 I was back in bed :)

A picture for sharing...I am trying to remember this when I think it is too hot out :)

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. Share a favorite song lyric.

I better not see 'I can't think of one' on anybody's paper. That's an automatic F in the Wednesday Hodgepodge you know.

"Savior He can move the mountains. My God is mighty to save. He is mighty to save. Forever, author of salvation, He rose and conquered the grave- Jesus conquered the grave." from Mighty To Save by Hillsong.

2. When was the last time someone yelled at you?

A few months ago. It was a terrible feeling. Need I say more.

3. Money, fame, happiness...are they mutually exclusive?

No. True happiness is only found in Jesus Christ.

4. What is your favorite dish to prepare for family and friends that doesn't require turning on the stove, oven or an outdoor grill?

Last week I made a new dessert. In a 9 X 13 pan I laid down some graham crackers. Next I put sliced banana pieces. On top of that I spread instant chocolate pudding. Then I covered it with foil and popped it in the freezer. Can you say frozen deliciousness?!

5. The first week of August is National Simplify Your Life Week. What is one thing you could do this week to simplify your life? Will you do it?

Hmm. Need some ideas for this one. Okay I used Google for some ideas :) I think I need to simplify my wardrobe. I need to go through all of my fall clothes and get rid of some. Since I tend to wear the same type of thing most of the time I don't need to buy other styles. I never wear them anyway.

6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being 100% and 1 being not at all) how tuned in are you to your country's national political scene?

Unfortunately a 5. I know it is my responsibility to keep up...I just can't stand it sometimes. I plan on trying to do better.

7. What are your final parting words to the month of July?

Goodbye July 2011. It has been a great month. The kids enjoyed swimming lessons and VBS and it was so wonderful to watch. Fourth of July was another fun time with friends. My birthday was also celebrated at the beach with hubby and kids. The month seemed to fly by.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Last week I cut eight inches off my hair and am donating it to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths. If anyone is interested you can see it here.

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is sunny and hot. Looks like a beautiful day as long as you are in the A/C or the pool :)

I am thinking... I have lots of laundry to do today. I didn't do any over the weekend so it has piled up.

I am thankful for... a faithful church. We had our 15th anniversary celebration dinner on Saturday and it was a great time.

From the learning rooms... it is nice to be on summer break.

From the kitchen... depends on what defrosts first. I have pork chops and chicken breasts defrosting in the fridge.

I am wearing... khaki drawstring capris and a blue v-neck.

I am going... no special plans this week. I am looking forward to that after a busy week.

I am reading... the Bible, Womanly Dominion: More than a Meek and Gentle Spirit by Mark Chanski, The Ministry of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson, Beautiful in God's Eyes by Elizabeth George.

I am hearing... the A/C and the washing machine.

One of my favorite things... fresh rye bread from the bakery with soft butter. Have I mentioned we have one of the best bakeries ever here in our town?!

A picture for sharing... here is the 8 inches I cut off of my hair! I am donating it to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program.
