Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark out but today was a beautiful sunny day.

I am thinking... I hope the oven timer goes off soon, I am hungry.

I am thankful for... joyful smiles.

From the learning rooms... all the basics were covered today.

From the kitchen... chicken pot pie with homemade pie crusts, leftover chicken, mixed veggies, cream of chicken soup and milk. Yum!

I am wearing... gray shorts (don't ask!) and a turquoise t-shirt.

I am going... to switch one more load of laundry soon. That makes five loads today. Whew!

I am reading... the Bible, "Womanly Dominion", "Instruments in The Redeemer's Hands", "Homework Manual" and "Strengthening Your Marriage" by Wayne Mack.

I am hearing... my computer humming. Everyone is quiet.

One of my favorite things... the beach off season. We went on Saturday and walked through the wooded areas. It is so beautiful and peaceful there.

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. The NFL playoffs were held this past weekend and this year's Superbowl lineup will feature The New York Giants versus The New England Patriots. How do you define 'patriot'?
Someone who loves this country and is committed to fighting to protect our freedom.

2. What's something in your life right now that feels like a 'giant'?
Laundry. It seems like the laundry sorter never stays empty.

3. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think back to being 18?
Big hair and long nails.

4. Coconut-mashed potatoes-vanilla ice cream-mayonnaise...which white food would be the hardest to give up?
Vanilla ice cream, hands down.

5. Describe an incident or a day you remember as the coldest you've ever experienced?
It would probably be at the kids' soccer game. It is windy on that field and in the beginning I didn't know how to dress for it ;)

6. You're hosting a brunch...what's your favorite dish to prepare and serve?
Cinnamon rolls. I have tried a few different recipes and seem to love them all :)

7. How do you combat negative thinking?
Reciting God's Word.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
It finally snowed here on Saturday. It was a fun day of sledding with the kids. Yesterday was 53 degrees and felt like the first days of spring ;) Now all the snow has melted. Wonder when we will have more snow?!

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark out now. Today was rainy but 50 degrees. A lot of the snow that fell on Saturday has melted.

I am thinking... could the media be any more biased?

I am thankful for... a soverign God.

From the learning rooms... language arts, math, history.

From the kitchen... ravioli with homemade sauce and salad.

I am wearing... jeans and a black t-shirt.

I am going... to watch the Debate.

I am hearing... the Debate. Can wait to hear my pick, Ron Paul. That is....if they give him any time.

One of my favorite things... people who have integrity.

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. A new Miss America was crowned on Saturday night-did you watch? If you were a contestant what would your talent be?

No, I didn't watch. If I were a contestant (hehe) I would have picked baton twirling as my talent. Haven't twirled in years, but I did for our 5th grade moving up ceremony. How funny!

2. Do you have houseplants? Real or fake?

No and I don't want any. I have no interest in plants. Don't really know why, but they don't appeal to me.

3. When you were in school did you speak up or were you more of the hide your face, avoid eye contact, and pray the teacher didn't call on you type of student?

I spoke up for the most part. I guess if it were a teacher I didn't like I would avoid eye contact. I had some wonderful teachers- really life changing. Made me want to be a teacher and change lives too. If it weren't for them I would never have been a teacher. I will never forget them!

4. Next Monday marks the Chinese New Year...what do you order when someone suggests Chinese food?

Sesame chicken, pork fried rice, roast pork loin mein and an egg roll. Sometimes spare ribs and egg drop soup. Oh and lots of duck sauce. I like to have a little of each.

5. How would you define a miracle? What would it take for you to consider something a miracle?

A miracle to me is something that can't be described in human terms. Only God and His power can perform one.

6. What's your favorite Disney song? If you're stuck you'll find a list here.

The Growing Pains song. I didn't know it was a Disney song though :) I loved that show growing up and love it even more now knowing Kirk Cameron is a Christian doing some great things.

7. I should have _____________ yesterday.

Worked out. I need to get back to my exercise routine.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Anyone else waiting for snow?

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark and around 29 degrees. I stepped out to put the garbage can away (in my socks and no coat) and it was refreshing :)

I am thinking... what a nice day we had with our friends visiting.

I am thankful for... friends that distance can't separate.

From the learning rooms... spelling, math, reading and outdoor play ;)

From the kitchen... pizza and garlic knots, I haven't cooked a thing today.

I am wearing... jeans and a brown v-neck long sleeve shirt.

I am going... to help a friend organize and clean out their home, acupuncture, to help my Mom take down her Christmas decorations, book club.

I am reading... the Bible, "Womanly Dominion", "Instruments in The Redeemer's Hands", "Homework Manual" by Wayne Mack.

I am hearing... "The Christmas Story" playing on TV.

One of my favorite things... last week's answer: Christmas decorations. Mine are still up and I only plan on taking them down over the weekend. This week's answer: Ha! I still haven't taken them down. I started to on Friday and my husband said "Oh, you are taking them down already. It hasn't even been a week since New Year's". So up they stayed :)

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. What are three words you would use to describe your 2011?

Grace, Mercy and Love. God's of course!

2. Do you like shrimp? What's your favorite way to have it prepared?

For some reason it hasn't appealed to me lately, but my favorite has to be Jumbo Fried Shrimp with tartar sauce. I have wonderful memories of eating it when we would go out to eat with my aunt and grandparents in Florida.

3. Is your house de-Christmased? If so when did you tackle that job? If not, when will the decorations come down?

No. I plan on doing that this weekend. The weather is supposed to be in the 40s/50s and clear so hubby can tackle the lights and decorations outside too :)

4. Do you like to watch scary movies?

No! I can't even stand too much action/adventure movies.

5. ice skating~sledding~skiing~snowboarding~of the four listed which wintertime activity do you most enjoy?

Sledding, for sure! I love sledding, although I think it is more like tubing these days.

6. Did you have a childhood hideout? Describe it.

We have a little closet in the basement that we used as a pantry. It has slats on the door so you can see out but can't see in.

7. What's a place or space that motivates you?

The ocean. Nothing like staring out on water that seems to have no end. Enjoying God's beautiful creation with my feet in the sand always seems to clear my mind.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Is anyone else having odd weather for January where they are? Today was in the 20s and by the end of the week it's forecasted to be in the 50s! It really doesn't feel much like winter except for the bare bushes.
