Truth For Thursday

I am continuing “Truth for Thursday” here at Being Refined As Silver.  We are on the last chapter of “Lies Women Believe”, chapter 11: “The Truth That Sets Us Free”.  It will take several weeks to review this chapter, so I hope you will continue to come back each week.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss encourages her readers to take time to savor these liberating, life-changing truths.  She suggests saying each Truth aloud, again and again until your thinking becomes aligned with God’s way of thinking.

Here is the twenty-first truth:

My suffering will not last forever.

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.  For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”  2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Nancy Leigh DeMoss writes, “All suffering is purposeful and intentional.  God has a specific objective in mind for our suffering.  He knows exactly the intensity and the duration that are needed to fulfill His purposes.  He will not allow any suffering to last any longer or to be any more severe than is necessary to accomplish His will.” (page 264-265)

In the midst of suffering we often feel like it will never end.  It is difficult to see beyond the moment.  We can’t rely on our feelings, but we can rely on God’s Word and it tells us differently.  As Christians there will be an end to our suffering.

"Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for the new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”  2 Peter 3:13

We can keep fighting the good fight knowing that He has promised to be with us to the end.

“For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”  Hebrews 13:5

We can take comfort in knowing that our suffering will not last forever.

“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.  There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”  Revelation 21:4

Praise God!
