Wednesday's Hodgepodge

Visit Joyce and join the fun!

1. Summertime is a season of reunions, weddings, and other family celebrations and gatherings...are any of the above on your calendar in the next two months?

We have a few birthday celebrations in the summer.  I have two weddings coming up but that's not until October.

2. June is National Iced Tea Month...are you an iced tea drinker? If so, how do you like yours (sweet, flavored, etc)?

I love iced tea.  I like it just about anyway- unsweetened, sweet, made from flavored herbal tea, with lemon, etc.  If I get thirsty while I am out I usually stop at Wendy's for an unsweetened iced tea or McDonald's for a sweet tea since it is $1 for any size :)

3. When were you last nervous?  Looking back, was the 'event' actually nerve-worthy?

I was nervous yesterday when I had to make a phone call to request a new home health aide for my father-in-law.  I didn't want to answer many questions but of course they asked and I answered.  It went much better than I expected so I don't think it was actually nerve-worthy.

4. The bristle toothbrush was invented in China on June 26, 1498...not sure how that date was pinned down so precisely but, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being sick to your stomach and 1 being not at all, how nervous do you feel when you're headed to the dentist?  Do you see your dentist twice a year?

I'd say a 7.  I don't like going to the dentist but I have a great dentist whom I trust so that makes it easier.  I usually go twice a year for a cleaning by the hygienist.  Last year I had extensive work on my teeth so saw my dentist quite often.

5. What's making news in your town this week?

There is a debate here about building a big 55 and over community on an empty space.  The builder modified the plans and wants to get started but there was a hearing taking place for anyone who objected.  There are many who do not want it because of the change in scenery in the area (it is an area surrounded by nature) and also because of the increase in traffic it will bring.

6. Curtains, drapes, blinds...your window treatment of choice? Are there any bare windows in your house? Is that by choice or because you haven't gotten around to covering them?

Yes to window treatments.  I have curtains, drapes and blinds, depending on the room of the window.  There aren't any bare windows in my house by choice.  My neighbors are close and so is the street so I like to have my windows covered for privacy.

7. Summertime is officially here (in the Northern hemisphere anyway)...whatone song is a must-have on your summer playlist?

Sadly, I don't have a playlist but if I did it would be "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama.  I love the 1983 video- frosted hair, the old NYC police cars and at the very end of the video the NYC skyline with The Twin Towers.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

This week is our first week off after finishing the school year.  I guess it's time to update my spring blog design.  Happy Summer :)

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

Visit Joyce and join the fun!

1. Have you learned more from success or failure? Explain.

This is a tough question.  I'll say failure because it is those times where you really are in a spot to learn.  You know the way you just tried didn't work so you are open to other ways.

2.  What did you call your grandparents when you were growing up? If you have children, what do they call your parents? If you have grandchildren, what do they call you?

I called my grandparents Grandma and Grandpa.  My children call all of their grandparents the same thing.  For a short period they called my husband's father PopPop but that didn't last long.  I think he always wanted to be called that but it just didn't stick.

3.  You're invited to a luau.  In keeping with that theme, what dish will you bring to share?

I would bring some kind of pork loin with pineapple, probably in my crockpot.

4. Besides Jesus, what one person's life story do you think everyone should know about?

The apostle Paul.  It amazes me to see how God changed him mightily for His kingdom.

5. "Don't sweat the small stuff." Agree or Disagree? Why?

I agree.  So much time is wasted on things that really don't matter in the long run.

6.  June is National Rivers Month. When were you last on a river? What's the prettiest river you've ever seen? What's a river you'd like to see?

It's been a several years since I've been on a river.  It was the Delaware River, actually the Delaware Water Gap.  My now husband and I were canoeing.  Actually we capsized and when I think about it now I laugh.  Not sure if I laughed then ;)  We lost our Italian hero sandwich in our cooler and I think that is what we tried to save the hardest.  My husband actually has a lump on the palm of his hand from an injury he sustained trying to save the oars.  I wish someone had caught the whole episode on video.  We may have won on America's Funniest Home Videos!

I haven't seen many rivers so I would have to say the one I've been to the most- The Delaware River.

The Penobscot River in Maine is one I'd like to see.  I love Maine, although I've only been there once (on our honeymoon).  I think it would be fun to go back with the kids and rent a cabin on the lake, or river.

7.  Speaking of rivers-paddling, fishing, swimming, or bird watching safely from the shore? Which activity would you choose? Yes-you have to choose.

I would choose paddling in a canoe or a raft, isn't that what rivers are for?  I prefer to swim in bodies of water such as oceans and bays.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Happy Wednesday :)
