Wednesday's Hodgepodge

Visit Joyce and join the fun!

1. Share one thing that really makes your day.

Someone making me a cup of tea or coffee.  It's the little things, right?

2. Lots of these kinds of lists out there, but one found here says the fifteen most colorful places on earth are:

Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy~Burano, Italy~Havana, Cuba~Rio de Janiero, Brazil~Chefchaouen, Morocco~Balat, Istanbul, Turkey~Menton, France~Jodhpur, India~La Baca, Buenos Aires, Argentina~Guanajuato, Mexico~Capetown, South Africa~Valparaiso, Chile~Wroclaw, Poland~San Francisco, California~and Pelourhino, Salvador, Brazil.

Of those listed which would you most like to see up close and in person? Of all the places you've seen or traveled in your own life, what would you say was one of the most colorful?

Italy sounds nice, although I am not familiar with the places listed.  One of the most colorful places I've ever visited was The Florida Keys.

3."Everything you want is on the other side of fear." Jack Canfield  In general, would you agree or disagree with that statement? Why?

I disagree.  Fear isn't the only thing that stops us from having everything we want.  While there are certain situations where this statement would be true, I think more times it is untrue.

4. Imagine you're stranded on a desert island and dessert appears...what do you hope it is? Do you ever struggle to remember which spelling is desert and which is dessert?

Ice cream.  I have a trick for remembering the correct spelling for desert and dessert.  I learned it in elementary school.  The one with 2 s's is dessert because you always want more dessert.  (Sorry if s's isn't grammatically correct.  I don't think I've ever written that before ;)

5. What song almost always makes you cry?

"And Can It Be".  Especially the last two verses.  The emotion builds as the hymn is sung and when I sing it at church I get all choked up and teary.

1 And can it be that I should gain
an int'rest in the Savior's blood?
Died he for me, who caused his pain?
For me, who him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Refrain:
Amazing love! How can it be
that thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
2 'Tis myst'ry all! Th'Immortal dies:
who can explore his strange design?
In vain the first-born seraph tries to sound
the depths of love divine.
'Tis mercy all! Let earth adore,
let angel minds inquire no more. [Refrain]
3 He left his Father's throne above
(so free, so infinite his grace!),
humbled himself (so great his love!)
and bled for all his chosen race!
'Tis mercy all, immense and free,
for, O my God, it found out me! [Refrain]
4 Long my imprisoned spirit lay
fast bound in sin and nature's night;
thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray;
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
my chains fell off, my heart was free;
I rose, went forth, and followed thee. [Refrain]
5 No condemnation now I dread;
Jesus, and all in him, is mine!
Alive in him, my living Head,
and clothed in righteousness divine,
bold I approach th'eternal throne,
and claim the crown, through Christ, my own. [Refrain]

6. January is National Soup Month.  Everything from soup to nutsin the soup,thick as pea soupsouped up...which saying most recently applies to your life in some way? Explain.

I'll say in the soup since I made two huge pots of chicken soup last week.

7. Write a two word note to your younger self. What does it say?

Remember consequences.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I am slowly taking down my Christmas decorations and trying to put some winter decorations up so it doesn't look so bare.  I  found a few ideas on Pinterest.  Any other recommendations?

  1. Yes! I could have chosen that song as well. I love it!! The message of those old hymns is something so often missed by newer choruses. I've got my decorations down and in boxes, but need to get them carried upstairs. I do like to keep little white lights up cuz they make it seem less bare.

  6. I agree with you, I didn't think that fear was an issue in every situation! Like your trick for the spelling of dessert. I have all my decorations packed as of yesterday but now I have to tackle the tree's.

  8. (visiting from Hodgepodge) - How Can It Be is a wonderful song. I often am just amazed/shocked/in awe that our God would do that for us. I mean, ME???? It puts your heart in a different place when you think about it that way.

  9. And Can It Be -- GREAT hymn. I am so pleased that many of the gals on Hodgepodge today are talking about hymns.

    I was mildly surprised that the Florida Keys wasn't on the list of most colorful places.
