Wednesday's Hodgepodge

Visit Joyce and join the fun!

1. Summertime is a season of reunions, weddings, and other family celebrations and gatherings...are any of the above on your calendar in the next two months?

We have a few birthday celebrations in the summer.  I have two weddings coming up but that's not until October.

2. June is National Iced Tea Month...are you an iced tea drinker? If so, how do you like yours (sweet, flavored, etc)?

I love iced tea.  I like it just about anyway- unsweetened, sweet, made from flavored herbal tea, with lemon, etc.  If I get thirsty while I am out I usually stop at Wendy's for an unsweetened iced tea or McDonald's for a sweet tea since it is $1 for any size :)

3. When were you last nervous?  Looking back, was the 'event' actually nerve-worthy?

I was nervous yesterday when I had to make a phone call to request a new home health aide for my father-in-law.  I didn't want to answer many questions but of course they asked and I answered.  It went much better than I expected so I don't think it was actually nerve-worthy.

4. The bristle toothbrush was invented in China on June 26, 1498...not sure how that date was pinned down so precisely but, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being sick to your stomach and 1 being not at all, how nervous do you feel when you're headed to the dentist?  Do you see your dentist twice a year?

I'd say a 7.  I don't like going to the dentist but I have a great dentist whom I trust so that makes it easier.  I usually go twice a year for a cleaning by the hygienist.  Last year I had extensive work on my teeth so saw my dentist quite often.

5. What's making news in your town this week?

There is a debate here about building a big 55 and over community on an empty space.  The builder modified the plans and wants to get started but there was a hearing taking place for anyone who objected.  There are many who do not want it because of the change in scenery in the area (it is an area surrounded by nature) and also because of the increase in traffic it will bring.

6. Curtains, drapes, blinds...your window treatment of choice? Are there any bare windows in your house? Is that by choice or because you haven't gotten around to covering them?

Yes to window treatments.  I have curtains, drapes and blinds, depending on the room of the window.  There aren't any bare windows in my house by choice.  My neighbors are close and so is the street so I like to have my windows covered for privacy.

7. Summertime is officially here (in the Northern hemisphere anyway)...whatone song is a must-have on your summer playlist?

Sadly, I don't have a playlist but if I did it would be "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama.  I love the 1983 video- frosted hair, the old NYC police cars and at the very end of the video the NYC skyline with The Twin Towers.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

This week is our first week off after finishing the school year.  I guess it's time to update my spring blog design.  Happy Summer :)

  1. My mom has something similar going on with a proposed housing deal that has everyone up in arms. It's like they don't really think about the impact on traffic in the area. Or maybe they do, but they think more about the $$$. Happy Summer : )

  3. I like the 'spring atmosphere' in your layout design tho. LOL
Our 'summer' started about two months ago when the temps began to climb. Today predicted to be the first day of triple digits. Oh well, it's better than 4 feet of snow on the ground and icy streets.

The changing of health aid for any senior is difficult. I can understand your anxieties getting started, but happy to hear that it went smoothly.

I would hope that the new 55 community would take into consideration the landscaping and save 'nature' as much as possible. And I find that the city engineers take into consideration about the traffic flow. There's always room for progress in my opinion.

  7. I love your font! What is it? #3 sounds intense, we're having that similar problem where they want to build a Chase bank and CVS drug store right in the middle of the busy part of town. The traffic is already bad enough since there's only one road going in and out of town.

  11. I can honestly say I never watched that video before now. It was so funny to see the old styles. It was also interesting to see the twin towers at the end.
