Truth for Thursday

I am continuing “Truth for Thursday” here at Being Refined As Silver.  We are on the last chapter of “Lies Women Believe”, chapter 11: “The Truth That Sets Us Free”.  It will take several weeks to review this chapter, so I hope you will continue to come back each week.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss encourages her readers to take time to savor these liberating, life-changing truths.  She suggests saying each Truth aloud, again and again until your thinking becomes aligned with God’s way of thinking.

Here is the first truth:

God is good.

You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes.”  Psalm 119-68

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 136:1

It is easy to believe this when everything is going well for us.  It is easy for us to see the blessings we have then.  But what about when things get rough?  The Enemy will move in and cause us to question God’s goodness.  You may start to think “Does God really know what He is doing?  How can this be for my good and His glory?  Is God really good to His people?”

When these lies start to flood your mind, remember what God’s Word tells us.  The truth is God is good and everything He does is good.  It does not depend on our circumstances, our feelings or our thoughts.  Won’t you join me today in hiding God’s Word in our hearts? May it wash away any thoughts that question God’s goodness.

  1. Yes and amen! But isn't it so true that we usually learn and cling to His word in the valley...because when we are on the mountain top we seem to feel we have arrived? Thanks for the scriptures and reminder.
    Blessings my friend!

  4. Great truth, Theresa! He IS good-all the time!
When things start going wrong for me, one of the first questions I have is "What am I doing wrong?! Am I in His Will or is He disciplining me for something!?"

My blog is still offline and will probably be for a few more days, but I hope you have a blessed weekend! If you need anything, please don't hesitate to e-mail me!

    Much love in Christ,

    Michelle

  9. Hi Theresa,
My new, 9-3 no computer rule, has practically taken me off the computer during the work week, which makes me feel like I am missing some wonderful posts. At any rate, thank you for sharing this post. I enjoyed being reminded that God is good ALL THE TIME :-)

  10. Yes, God IS good. When my daughter was going through a rough time with her health in '08 and in the hospital three different times that year and once almost losing her, it was very hard on us, but you know what? I didn't blame God. Yes, I wondered why she was going through this, but I (we) held tight to the Lord and kept believing that God would pull her through and kept telling her that He wasn't done with her yet. She had many more lives to bless first. We thanked the Lord for her and all of us settled in our hearts that the Lord's Will be done. She pulled through and has done fine and been healthy ever since. No, we still don't know why she went through all that, but we had resigned ourselves to the fact that even if He decided to take her to her Heavenly Home, we would still serve Him. There is no other like Him!!!
