Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. The Hodgepodge falls on the last day of February this year, a leap year. How will you spend that extra day?

Doing the routine stuff. I did exercise after my quiet time this morning :) Then there is homeschooling, laundry, and cooking.

2. What has recently required a leap of faith on your part?

I can't think of a specific instance that took a "leap of faith". Each day I practice having faith in God and His plans and that He is in control of all things.

3. We're one week into the season of Lent...are you marking these 40 days in some way? Giving something up or adding something extra to normal life? How's it going so far?

I am not doing anything special for Lent. I do like the idea of handwriting a letter each day like Joyce is doing.

4. When was the last time you sat beside a fire?

In September at our church picnic. There was a lovely fire pit going as things quieted down when the sun went down. I could sit in front of a fire for hours. Our last house had a fireplace and I loved it. I will have to work on getting a firepit for the backyard ;)

5. Surf and Turf is on the menu. Do you order as is or do you ask for just the surf (lobster), just the turf (steak), or a menu so you can select another option?

I would order the turf. Cooked medium please.

6. If you could have any television program back, not in reruns but in new episodes, what program would you choose?

Little House on The Prairie. It is one of the few shows we can watch as a family without the remote control in hand ready to switch channels. Don't you just love Caroline Ingalls? What a woman!

7. They say an elephant never forgets. These days would you say your memory is more like an elephant or a gnat?

Hmm. A little bit of both. I remember a lot of things but it seems my short term memory is not so good. I need to write things down when I think of them and often walk into a room and forget what I wanted to do there.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Does anyone have any good dairy and egg free recipes? I would love any. Thanks :)

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... the sun is starting to set. It is a warm 53 degrees.

I am thinking... time to start dinner.

I am thankful for... my headache letting up. It was bad this morning but has dulled, thankfully.

From the learning rooms... teaching the rules about dropping the silent e or doubling the consonant before adding ed or ing, calendar math, penmanship, multiplication, reading and all the rest;)

From the kitchen... London Broil on the BBQ with potatoes and broccoli for dinner.

I am wearing... black pants and a cranberry colored long sleeve top.

I am going... don't have any definite plans besides church on Sunday yet.

I am reading... the Bible, "Womanly Dominion" (I have finished reading it but since our book club only meets once a month I still reread and review), "The Blood Type Diet".

I am hearing... my computer humming, the kids playing outside.

One of my favorite things: chocolate covered strawberries, which my daughter has been enjoying making.

Have a wonderful week.

Saturday Baking

What do you do with overripe bananas? Make banana bread, of course. I have a recipe that uses heavy cream and is really good, but I know that adds a lot of fat to it. I found a recipe over at Tammy's recipes that uses whole wheat flour and it has become my new favorite. I usually make two loaves at a time since we can hardly wait for it to cool enough to cut it. It is great for an afternoon snack with hot tea or breakfast with a glass of milk :)

You can find the recipe here.
Enjoy!

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is dark now. Today was sunny and a beautiful 40 degrees :)

I am thinking... it has been a busy few days.

I am thankful for... wonderful family and friends.

From the learning rooms... no school today- it is Presidents' Day.

From the kitchen... no cooking for me today. I did a lot of cooking this weekend- lasagna, sausage and peppers, meatballs. This morning I did bake a cake.

I am wearing... blue comfy pajamas.

I am going... to a friend's house tomorrow.

I am reading... the Bible, "Womanly Dominion", "The Blood Type Diet".

I am hearing... "The Voice" on TV, the sound of hubby and kids playing Nintendo DS.

One of my favorite things: seeing my children smile.

A picture for sharing: here is the Superman cake I made today for my son's birthday party:

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. What is something you are loving right now?

Our bakery's afternoon special. Each day after 2, they sell a dozen donuts for $3. They have jelly, custard filled and the chocolate and vanilla iced ones! I tried a Dunkin Donut after that and yuck! All I tasted was artifical and stale!

2. Paris, Venice, New York, and Rome are considered four of the most romantic cities in the world. Which one would you most like to visit?

The only one I have visited is NYC. I haven't been there in some years. Pretty sad since I only live about 45 minutes outside of the city. I did have a really great date with my hubby there before we were married. We went to a play and dinner for his birthday. I would like to visit Venice some day.

3. Are you a romantic?

I guess so. Especially after thinking about Venice :)

4. What's your favorite love story made for the Big Screen?

I love "You've Got Mail". Really at the end when she goes to meet him and he comes over that bridge- brings tears to my eyes every time.

5. Everyone loves Pooh bear and friends...which character are you most like and why? Click here for help in answering this question.

I didn't know so I took the quiz. According to it I am a Kanga; "Warm and loving and great with children. People know not to misbehave around you, or else they'll end up in time out."

6. What's the best chocolate something you've ever eaten?

Have I mentioned that we have the best bakery ever in our town? The make a Chocolate Meltaway Cake that is outrageous! Everytime I bring it somewhere everyone loves it!!!

7. Share a favorite quote about love.

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." 1 John 4:18 NKJV

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Did anyone else enjoy watching the NY Giants festivities as much as I did? It was amazing!

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... it is sunny and breezy out. A beautiful warm winter day.

I am thinking... how nice it is to have my laptop work outside :)

I am thankful for... the warmth of sunshine on my face.

From the learning rooms... all the basics were covered today. This week second quarterly reports are due and I will write their report cards.

From the kitchen... tonight I am making pork loin with orange Juice and brown sugar poured over it before going in the oven, sauteed apples with cinnamon and steamed broccoli.

I am wearing... Jeans, black clogs, an Old Navy flag t-shirt and my winter coat. I am sitting in the backyard while the kids play.

I am going... to acupuncture, maybe prayer meeting, and book club this week.

I am reading... the Bible, "Womanly Dominion", "Instruments in The Redeemer's Hands", "Homework Manual" and "Strengthening Your Marriage" by Wayne Mack.

I am hearing... cars, especially the one with the loud muffler who is switching gears, the breeze, a school bus putting on the brakes and a heliocopter.

One of my favorite things: The Superbowl, especially when our team wins! Congrats to the New York Giants! Can't wait for the ticker parade tomorrow. I'll be watching on TV at home.

Wednesday's Hodgepodge

I am linking up today for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce.

1. It's that most wonderful time of the year...tax season! Do you complete your own returns or farm that job out to the professionals?

My husband takes care of our taxes.

2. This next question comes from Kansas Bob...he posed it in his response to something I asked in an earlier Wednesday post and I asked him if I could add it to the Hodgepodge some day. Today's the day....

Which do you think has changed you more-love or pain?

Love. God's love has changed me more than any other person or thing could!

3. Tangerine Tango has been named color of the year for 2012. Your thoughts? Would I find this color anywhere in your house? How about in your closet? If not, will you be adding this color to your life in some way in 2012? If you're not sure what tangerine tango looks like click here.

I don't think you would find it anywhere in my house, but maybe a t-shirt in my closet. I think I would like it as a nail polish color on my toes :)

4. Are you a collector? What do you collect and does it get admired, used, and/or dusted regularly?

I do have a small Precious Moments collection. They are in my china closet to be looked at behind the glass doors. I did have a Precious Moments cake topper that was used at our wedding.

5. February is National Heart Month...besides a green salad what is one tasty heart healthy dish you like to prepare?

This is a hard one. I guess I could say I bake with whole wheat flour?

6. When was the last time you had car trouble?

The a/c needed to be fixed a couple of summers ago, but before that it was a few years ago when our Grand Caravan would act funny when it rained. It was some sort of electrical problem and I was able to convince my husband to trade it in for a new Town & Country, which I love.

7. Have you been more demanding on yourself lately or less? Is that a good trend?

Less. That is a good trend. I am learning to not have to be busy every second of the day.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

So today it is in the upper 50s here. Seriously it feels like spring.
