Wednesday’s Words of Wisdom

This morning I would like to quote Jerry Bridges in his book “Trusting God Even When Life Hurts”.

God has an over-arching purpose for all believers: to conform us to the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).  He also has a specific purpose for each of us that is His unique, tailor-made plan for our individual life (see Ephesians 2:10).  And God will fulfill that purpose.  As Psalm 138:8 says, ‘The LORD will fulfill His purpose for me.’  Because we know God is directing our lives to an ultimate end and because we know He is sovereignly able to orchestrate the events of our lives toward that end, we can trust Him.  We can commit to Him not only the ultimate outcome of our lives, but also all the intermediate events and circumstances that will bring us to that outcome.”   Page 46, “Trusting God Even When Life Hurts”

I pray that this encourages you this morning in whatever situation you may be.

  1. This is beautiful Theresa. I have a friend that just told me her husband was leaving her. She is devastated. This has encouraged me in how I can pray for her and this sad situation. God will turn this for His good. Love your site. Thank you for visiting mine. Blessings!

  3. I love the promise that God will fulfill His purpose in me...despite myself...He has a plan and a purpose and it will be accomplished. I could go kicking and screaming, or I could trust that He knows best and that His timing is perfect.

  5. I love his statement that God not only holds the ultimate outcome in sight for us, but that in the the intermediate events He is at work as well. That's the part where Satan loves to try to cast doubt and despair. Thanks for reminding us that our God is there.
    Blessings,
    Toni

  6. There are so many hurting people and I don't know how anyone can get through their trials without the Lord!!! I have seen this theme a lot recently. I hope it doesn't mean the Lord is preparing me for another trial again, but if so, I will cling tightly to Him!

  8. I've been on the same theme - from Merlin Carother's books Prison to Praise and Power in Praise. Odd? I think not. The Lord knows the trials being faced in these days and His voice is reaching a great number of us. It is my hope that your post will prompt many others to experiment with trusting God even (or especially) when life hurts. Wonderful message. Everyone should hear it.

Your post has blessed my life today. My heart has been touched. If you have time in your iFellowship visits, I invite you to stop by mine at #15 - Home For The Holidays.
