Truth for Thursday

I am continuing “Truth for Thursday” here at Being Refined As Silver.  We are on the last chapter of “Lies Women Believe”, chapter 11: “The Truth That Sets Us Free”.  It will take several weeks to review this chapter, so I hope you will continue to come back each week.

Nancy Leigh DeMoss encourages her readers to take time to savor these liberating, life-changing truths.  She suggests saying each Truth aloud, again and again until your thinking becomes aligned with God’s way of thinking.

Here is the twelfth truth:

Through the power of His Holy Spirit, God will enable me to do anything He commands me to do.

God commands us to love one another.  How often do we find someone unlovable?  We say we can’t love them because they are …. or they did…  But the truth is there is no one we can not love. We may not feel like loving them, but God’s Word commands us to.

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”  Matthew 5:44

God commands us to forgive one another.  There are times when we do not want to forgive.  We think the hurt is too deep to forgive.  Maybe the person who offended or hurt you hasn’t even asked for forgiveness.  Are we to be led by our feelings?  No, again we are called to obedience to God’s Word.

“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”  Mark 11:25

God command us to give thanks in all things.  No matter what situation you may find yourself in, give thanks.  We know that all things work for our good and for His Glory if we are in Christ (Romans 8:28).

“…in everything give thanks; for this is the will of  God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1Thessalonians 5:18

As Christians we are to be content in every circumstance.  Do we grumble and complain as the world does?  Really, what is there to complain about?  We are children of the King.  We can choose to cling to His promises and walk in obedience.

“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have.  For He Himself has said ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’.”  Hebrews 13:5

Often times we say “I can’t”, when the truth is “I won’t”.  We can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13).  Ms. DeMoss says it so well; “Obedience is a choice made in dependence on the supernatural power of God.  By the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, we can choose to forgive, choose to let Him love others through us, choose to give thanks in every circumstance, and choose to be content.”

What are you choosing today?

  1. Well that sums up my day for sure. By 4:00 today I was tired, cast boy is starting to be, well not pleasant around this time, and I had carried him all morning at the pumpkin patch. He called out in a whiny voice and I stopped and quoted some of these scriptures to myself.
The I "won't" was taking over and I needed the spirit to win.
Thanks for sharing...enjoyed! I hope everything is going well, any more results?
Oh, would love for you to play the tag game on my post if you would like.

  7. Good review this week, Theresa!! I love the realization that it's ALWAYS a choice, not necessarily always an easy one...but always a choice, nonetheless! We are never forced...I am reminded of a few verses in Deuteronomy 30, God is very clear that we have a choice to make, and I don't think He is solely talking about life/death, although ultimately it all comes down to life/death. Live for Christ or Die with the World. Great word today friend!! Keep on being a blessing =)
Oh, by the way, the verses I was referring to are Deuteronomy 30:11~20

  8. I once again really appreciated reading your words!! It is so encouraging to remember that God enables us to do what HE wants us to do... this can be so difficult to remember in the day to day- when I'd rather complain or be selfish, etc. What an amazing God! It reminds me of my little Alyssa who said she wanted to live for God, but just didn't know if she could- what a great truth to point her to.
